Big Brothers Big Sisters is a proven program:

Research shows that our program has a major impact on the lives of the children we serve. Children in our program are:

• 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs;

• 27% less likely to begin using alcohol;

• 52% less likely to skip school;

• Significantly less likely to engage in violent, criminal, or delinquent behavior;

• More confident of their schoolwork performance;

• Better able to get along with their peers and family.

Treatment and other strategies designed to combat drugs, violence, or poor academic performance do not comer close to matching the cost effectiveness of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. For example, at $175 per day, or $63,875 per year, one boy can be housed in a juvenile detention center or the same $63,875 can serve at least 86 children annually by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lycoming County.
