Apply to Become a
Big
Volunteers are the heart of our program. You can make a difference in the life of a child by becoming a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister.” Volunteers must be patient, supportive, and willing to learn. Our agency offers a variety of service options.
Traditional
Community-based Match
Volunteers meet with their “Little” for weekly outings. Volunteers generally pick the child up at his or her home and bring them back at the end of their outing. We ask for a minimum commitment of 3-5 hours weekly for one year. (A nine-month commitment for college students.)
Couples Match
This type of match is very similar to the traditional match except two people are acting as mentors- husband and wife, father and son, or mother and daughter. In this type of match the mentoring of the child is shared. School-based Mentoring
Many of our children need assistance with their school work and may also need a positive role model to aid their development. This program is open to high school students from area schools. High school students are matched with an elementary student and meet once a week directly after school for approximately one hour. The commitment for this program is usually the school year.
